If someone had some doubt about it, the last happenings in the political realm make it clear for all. Germany vs Italy, France vs England, East vs West, South vs North. Is this a Union? What are the elements that link these countries together?
The opinion of this magazine is that there are many reasons why the EU is now at stake, but at this very moment, it seems hard to see any of them. If this institution wants a future, change is needed. A new relation with the citizens, for example. A renewed comprehension that the interest of a single country, so useful for the national elections, is detrimental to the interest of the Union as a whole. A faith in the common institutions and in the common values of the European people.
These are things to be made, rapidly. Or shortly we will be talking about EU as history.
No, we need a fresh start and everybody needs a vision of the future, of which will be the next day of Europe. Tomorrow means today.
