The objective of the pilot project is to provide insight in current offsetting and climate certification schemes, including certified carbon removals in the EU and in the EU Emissions Trading System, and explore how the climate offsets and compensations and carbon removals activities can be linked to directly benefit biodiversity conservation and restoration.
The following activities can be funded under this call:
- Desk studies
- Interviews and surveys
- Participation in events
- Organisation of webinars and events
- Database development
- Publications and communication material
The project will provide first-hand information on carbon offsetting and emission trading schemes and on how biodiversity stakes are addressed in existing climate certification schemes. It shall help to identify best practices and good quality schemes to avoid negative impacts on biodiversity and increase biodiversity co-benefits and avoid the further development of ineffective schemes. This overview shall help potential investors and funding institutions with their decision making and contribute to decrease the risk of greenwashing. This shall help to mobilise funding for biodiversity and climate through investment in implementation of nature-based solutions.
The available call budget is EUR 250.000.
One project will be selected. The project may last up to 24 months.
Deadline for submission is 30 June 2023
