Geopolitical trends outside Europe in 2021
Editorial 31 May 2021Brussels plays an important role in the global scenario, but often EU struggles to exercise autonomous leadership and appears to be a significant player only in multilateral contexts.
Just looking at the past weeks, the return of the conflict between Israel and Palestine or the humiliating (and terrible) hijacking of the Ryanair flight by the Belarus Government make us understand the need of a well-defined EU foreign policy in front of global challenges and changes.
Faced with power politics both new and old, European leaders are looking for a response to all of this. They all believe that Europe must become an actor in order to avoid being the pawn of regional and global powers and even single countries.
In such a context, it is essential to understand geopolitical trends and perspectives of 2021.
