Call for FET Take-Up Actions (2015): new topic in the FET-Open programme

EU funding opportunities

FetThe Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) programme aims at developing radically new technologies by exploring novel and high-risk ideas, building on scientific foundations. It promotes research beyond what is accepted or widely adopted and fosters visionary thinking to open promising paths towards powerful new technologies.

FET programme consists of three complementary lines of action, one of them being the FET-Open Calls.
FET Open supports early-stage research on any idea for a new technology. There are no pre-defined themes. It encourages scientists and engineers from multiple disciplines to work together on changing science and technology research, expanding well beyond the traditional technological disciplines.

FET funded research is paving the way towards great results, but their take-up “out of the lab” (when relevant) is always a challenge. This is not surprising, given the long-term nature of FET research and its largely academic consortia. How to make it happen more often?

The FET Open Call for Coordination and Support Actions (CSA), under the Horizon 2020 Work Programme 2014-15, includes for the first time FET Take-Up Actions.
These are described as: “actions for stimulating take-up of FET research results towards impact and innovation, in ways that are complementary to and beyond the capacity of single research projects. Examples include outreach to investors and entrepreneurs, use of unconventional channels (like NGOs or artists), or targeting of new audiences and purposes (e.g. for social innovation, global development or peace)”.

The FET Open call for CSA also comprises a second topic, FET Exchange, aiming at supporting actions that structure and build the community around an emerging FET relevant topic. This shall include research roadmapping and engaging of the appropriate range of disciplines and stakeholders such as young researchers and high-tech SMEs.

The first call deadline is 31 March 2015 (second call deadline is 29 September 2015) for both topics FET Take-Up and FET Exchange.

A total budget of 1.5 million euro has been made available by the Commission for each call deadline.

The EU co-financing rate will cover 100% of total eligible cost.
